Angle Blog: Share Your Advocacy Day Experiences

Do you have Grassroots Advocacy Day experiences you would like to share? The AIA Government Advocacy team would like to hear your feedback. Were members of Congress and staff responsive to the AIA issues agenda? Did you make a connection with a particular legislator? Do you have a success story from which other components or architects could learn? Post your comments here!

Terry LeDesky AIA:
This was my first Grassroots. I am grateful and honored to have had the experience of meeting with my states senators and representative with fellow AIA members. After presenting our AIA briefs with my representative, I asked if there was anything we could help him with. He said in effect, not talk about work. A friendly caring visit can be a fresh breath of air in the intense lobbying environment of Capital Hill. People will not care what you know until they know that you care. In my post Grassroots thank you back to the representatives, I shared with them a great Brazilian restaurant that I discovered while in Washington D.C. The staff seamed to appreciate that feed back as well.
