What study materials are available for LEED Certification and where would I obtain information to become LEED Certified?

It seems like how you study for the exam should be less important as actually passing the exam, no? The AIA should keep it simple- become LEED accredited, get the HSW credit. The way it is structured is like becoming registered for studying for the ARE but never taking the tests.

The AIA does allow for HSW credit if members study and pass the exam. This process is in cooperation with the USGBC. Contact the USGBC at 202-828-7442 for details on how to receive CE credit.

You brought up a good point. Until that is available, credit for passing the test as opposed to credit for process of passing the test members may want to look into www.usgbc.org for LEED courses. There are others available through registered AIA providers at www.aia.org/ces_p_default, but that's a good place to go.

The USGBC does offer a program where participants can obtain limited AIA/CES and MCE continuing education credit for study, prepartation and successful completion 80% of the exam. Contact USGBC at exam@gbci.org.

For those of us who passed the LEED exam since January 2009, we have to self-report the time spent studying. (1) If one passes the exam, can we get SD credit? (2) If not, can we achieve HSW credit? (3) How much time can we actually be credited for studying for and taking the exam?

Thank you for contacting the AIA Continuing Education. Taking and passing the test are not eligible for credit. However, members can self-report up to 50 hours of study time on a self-designed self-report. The self-report form can be found when you sign in on the right of the education section [http://www.aia.org/education/index.htm] of AIA.org. For more information, please visit the FAQ [http://info.aia.org/aia/cesfaq_default.cfm].
How do I receive credit for becoming LEED Accredited?
If you studied on your own and took the exam you may self-report that time online as a self-designed activity (research). Since it was not structured and presented to you by a third party, it will not be eligible for HSW credit or SD credit. If you took a class from an organization that was not an AIA/CES Registered Provider then you may self-report the class as a structured activity program. This type of activity will be eligible for HSW credit, and possibly SD credit. If the program was presented by an AIA/CES Registered Provider then the program provider is responsible for the submission of your activities to AIA/CES Records.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
