AIA/CES is offering new provider trainings in 2011. Sara Thomas, Manager, CES, will reveal what’s ahead in her article below. Also, to support your use of CES Discovery, the CES Provider Connection will include tips about policies and procedures. In this issue we include tips about submitting attendance. Nikitia H. Forest, M.A., Manager, CES includes information about an exciting new series of webinars.
Of course, life exists outside of the AIA/CES Department, and we hope that the links to articles about continuing education or the design industry in general prove useful as well. Any new information about mandatory continuing education as part of license renewals are included in this issue, and will be included in future CES Provider Connections. Lastly, as a service to our component providers (AIA Chapters) we continue to list calls for speakers and exhibitors.
We hope that all AIA/CES approved providers are as excited as we are about what is available to you through this newsletter. This information is sent to current providers only. If you have not renewed by the January 31, 2011 deadline, you can do so online. Access to CES Discovery will cease for those providers that do not renew by the January 31, 2011 deadline.
One way to monitor the quality of presentations is to offer evaluations to participants. Many continuing education providers rely on the results of evaluations to reveal the weaknesses and strengths within a presentation. An evaluation is also useful to discover trends or subjects that interest participants.
AIA/CES offers evaluations as well. As a result of a new policy, providers are required to add a new slide into their presentations that directs members to course evaluations. For more information on new policies or procedures, please review the Provider Manual on the Resources section of your CES Discovery home page.
An important consideration in these tough economic times is: is there a way to increase the quality of your offerings compared to last year without allocating additional resources? Design industry professionals have seen resources dwindle. Yet, the expected quality and level of service have remained the same or increased. How do firms, product manufacturers and other continuing education providers respond to this paradox? One way is through the use of social media.
Social media is ubiquitous and presents interesting opportunity to educational providers. It forms communities in unlikely places, and draws on a broad range of perspectives. As a result it could potentially expand the reach of your organization’s educational offerings. It’s so prevalent that the creator of FACEBOOK® is on the cover of Time Magazine®. However, it’s so new that advocates of social media are vastly outnumbered by those who only use a phone to call another person (EEK!)
