Helmut Jahn’s exposed-steel-frame terminal feels at once both modern and new but also harkens back to the era of the grand Beaux-Arts train station. This is experiential architecture par excellence, as the project includes a great tunnel whose long, moving walkway winds through a kinetic light and sound sculpture. Murphy/Jahn received the AIA’s Architecture Firm Award in 2005.

When I was a teenager, going on my first flight I had to pass through the neon/tone filled tunnel. It made the wonder of plane transportation that much more magical.
Last year, twice a lifetime later, stressed out from running late and the torment of airport security, the tunnel was an endless nightmare of gaudy lights and inhuman tones.
Still, it's fun for kids, so I say we keep it.

I am a building construction student at Virginia Tech and am doing a project on The United Airlines Terminal in Chicago IL. If anyone who sees this wouldn't mind sending me some information on the structure if they have it or where i can find information i would appreciate it. I need basic. Who, what, where, when, why, how.
Thanks
