Athenaeum

The Athenaeum sits on the banks of the Wabash river.  As in some of Meier’s other works, the façade is clad in square, white, porcelain, steel-backed panels.  Some critics have noted a resemblance to Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye.  The Athenaeum received at AIA Honor Award in 1982.

Erika Myers-Bromwell:

Here in New Harmony we love the Athenaeum! I think the building was a shock to people at first, but it's well worth seeing and walking through. The view of it on a clear day next to the river is unbeatable. Thanks AIA!

Liz Murray:

I loved this building. I actually love New Harmony and the building, very close to the Wabash River, it stumming. If in New Harmony, visit the maze and meditate and stay at the hotel. Visit the outdoors chapel as well. Whole town is interesting.
