Hyatt Regency San Francisco is the second hotel to make the list by preeminent hotel architect John Portman.  This project shares similarities with his Hyatt Regency Atlanta (#103), including a large and dramatic atrium housing a bank of glass-enclosed elevators.  The 17-story atrium of the Hyatt Regency San Francisco is decorated abundantly in polished brass.

Rosanne Allen-Hewlett:

This is a lovely shot of the lobby of the 'Hyatt Regency, Embarcadero'.
Since I was on his staff at this time, I have to
say that there is another important figure who contributed greatly to this cutting-edge architectural style for hotels, and for which he is known. Mr. Howard Hirsch, AIA (then Howard Hirsch + Associates) is known for the open, soring atrium with glass elevators and 'Tivoli' linear accent lighting in some public areas. This concept of bringing the outdoors in for hotels is still seen today. Our company provided the interiors and finishes for all public areas, rooms and suites for this project, and we worked on many such projects globally, and within the US with 'Portman Industries'. Yes 'Peachtree
Hyatt' in Atlanta was another.
Thank you, Carol for posting this fine example.
