In the 1920s, architects Fellheimer and Wagner were leaders in the design of railroad terminals. For the Cincinnati Terminal, they brought in their friend, the great Philadelphia architect, Paul Cret (1938 AIA Gold Medalist). Cret was educated at the Ecole des Beaux- Arts but mid-career became influenced by the Modern movement. The result was Cret’s radically stripped-down classicism typified here.

Truly a beautiful building. While Amtrak still runs the Cardinal line out of Union Terminal, the building is used primarily by three museums. There's enough room for an Omnimax theater as well.

Here's a link to a closer view of Union Terminal. The photo in this link shows the wonderful fountain in front of the main entrance.

A truly magnificent building. Too bad they didn't show views of the interior. It had striking terazzo tile murals. They came within a hairs-breadth of tearing this it before moving the three museums in. I remember boarding trains there as a kid in the 50's.

I've taken the Amtrak in and out of Cincy (my hometown). I'm glad they did not tear down this historical building. It is magnificent and belongs with these other fine works of architecture.

Neat building. I went through Cinncy on the train, but now I will go and see what I missed.
