John D. Rockefeller Jr. (an honorary member of the AIA) developed Rockefeller Center between 1929 and 1940. The principal architect for the project was Raymond Hood. The buildings in the complex are Art Deco in style, some of which have made the list of 150 independently. Many people consider Rockefeller Center one of the 20th century’s most successful urban complexes.

The whole complex is magnificent and very accessible to tourists. In 1942 as a boy of seven I looked down from its great observation deck to see the Normandie lying on her side at her berth after being gutted by a fire which may have been started by German saboteurs, an awesome sight indeed.
Americans owe a great debt to the Rockefeller family for this and so many other gifts to our country over the last century.

Why is it so low? Well, have you SEEN that Apple shop? It's better than Rockefeller Center.

my father had an office in Rock Center in the 50s and I thought it was so cool that after work he could unwind and see The Rockettes "do their thing".
