The Quadracci Pavilion of the Milwaukee Museum of Art is the first building of famed Spanish architect, artist, and sculptor Santiago Calatrava to be built in the United States. The structure is made up of dramatic shapes of concrete and steel, a 110-ton moveable winged roof, and a unique cable-stayed bridge. Built on the edge of Lake Michigan, the elegant structure suggests images of boats and birds. Calatrava received the AIA’s Gold Medal in 2005.

Living in Milwaukee I have been to and driven by the Calatrava many times, and each time I see the building it brings a smile to my face as it is a truly magnificent work of art.

Liz Murray:

I live near a Calatrava bridge in Huntington WV. It is beautiful. I have been to see this museum and I agree- a fantastic building.

Craig Johnson:

Calatrava Calatrava Calatrava Calatrava Calatrava Calatrava Calatrava Calatrava.

Sure it's titled the Quadracci Pavilion, but in Wisconsin, we just call it the Calatrava. "I'm going to Milwaukee to go to the Calatrava." What other architect would that happen with? Nobody calls a building the Pelli, the Gehry, the Pei, the Wright, the Wren.

(Well, maybe Koolhaas)

Pero solomente Calatrava es Calatrava. No son otros.

Kerry Jo:

I drive past the Calatrava, (that is what I call it too, Quadracci, no), every day on my way to work. The Calatrava simply takes my breath away every time, especially when the wings are open!

Scott S.:

Kudos to Milwaukee to be the first to commission a Calatrava in the US. Located in the heart of downtown on Lake Michigan, it gracefully welcomes all those who fly, drive, or sail into the city.
