On August 6-7, NCARB and AIA held the annual IDP Coordinators meeting in Chicago, Illinois. This year’s conference was focused on educator coordinators; addressing their needs and issues. Of the 136 registered attendees, more than eighty schools of architecture were represented, as well as 32 states. George Miller and Mickey Jacob, IDP Advisory Committee Co-Chair also participated in the discussions and workshops.
NCARB and AIA are working to improve knowledge resources supplied to coordinators, including a Powerpoint presentation, currently titled Career Building Blocks. NCARB has also updated IDP guidelines as of July. NCARB also announced changes IDP start dates eligibility for interns that will take effect this fall, allowing individuals to start earlier:
- Enrollment in a NAAB/CACB-accredited degree program.
- Enrollment in a preāprofessional architecture degree program at a school that offers a NAAB/CACB-accredited degree program.
- Employment in Work Setting A after obtaining a U.S. high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent, or comparable foreign degree.
Please read NCARB’s August IDP e-news for details (anyone can also and sign up for future issues.)
NCARB and AIA aspire to have an Auxiliary Coordinator in every firm, to help inform and guide interns, and it’s easy to sign up. To learn more, individuals can read Auxiliary Coordinator position description, (along with State and Educator), on the AIA IDP Coordinators page.
