2011 AIA/NAC Jason Pettigrew Memorial ARE scholarship recipients announced

The AIA and NAC are pleased to present scholarships to Matthew Murphy, Miranda Mote, Audrey Maxwell, Nicolette Feldser, and Devin Little. AIA recognized the 2011 recipients at the NAC/YAF Emerging Professionals Reception at the National Convention and Design Expo in New Orleans. Read the full press release in AIArchitect.

The scholarship honors the legacy of Jason Pettigrew by recognizing the significant contributions of interns at early stages in their careers and encourages them to complete the licensure process by defraying costs associated with the Architect Registration Examination (ARE).

This year, the jury noted that the record number of applications from impressive candidates made the selection process quite difficult.

More information about the 2011 recipients will be posted to the Jason Pettigrew page. They will also be featured in upcoming issues of AIArchitect.

National Associates Committee elects 2012 leadership

During the AIA National Convention and Design Expo in New Orleans, the National Associates Committee (NAC) elected Wayne Mortensen as the 2012 NAC Chair.

Mortensen currently serves as the NAC Advocacy Director and previously served as the 2003 – 2004 President of the American Institute of Architecture Students. He holds Masters in Architecture, Urban Design, and Social Work from Washington University. His passion is the exploration of built environments that facilitate the creation of bridging social capitol and civic engagement. His professional aspirations are distinctly “alternative” and include teaching, research and socially-oriented practice.

Matthew Hart, April Trojniak, and Patrick Weber were elected as directors-at-large. Hart, the 2011 – 2012 South Atlantic Regional Associate Director, has been with IPG Architects in Valdosta, Georgia since 2005. He also serves as on the AIA Middle Tennessee Board of Directors as an Associate Director, assisting with the Emerging Professionals and Programs committees. Trojniak currently serves as the Central States Regional Associate Director.

Mortensen, Hart, Trojniak, and Weber will join 2011 NAC Chair Ashley Clark and 2011 Associate Director William Turner to round out the 2012 NAC Executive Board.
