2011 YAF/COD Ideas Competition winners announced

The Young Architects Forum (YAF) and Committee on Design (COD) announced the winners of the 2011 Ideas Competition during the NAC/YAF Emerging Professionals Reception at the National Convention and Design Expo in New Orleans.

The first place recipient was “Project Via Aequalitas” created by Eric Liebmann, AIA, Tim Bertschinger, Megan Shiley, Alex Taylor, and Tom Zych, all of WDG Architecture in Washington, DC. Honorary mentions were presented to “Warp & Weft: Constructing Tokyo’s Olympic Selvedge Project” by a team from Eskew + Dumez + Ripple in New Orleans and “Urban Village Project” by Meagan Stables of KGD Architecture in Rosslyn, VA. The TOTO Prize for the Best Universally Designed Bathroom was awarded to “Tokyo Trusswork” by a team from AUS in Forli, Italy. Read the full press release in AIArchitect.

TOTO Corporation served as sponsor for the competition. The Jury was composed of Michael Graves, FAIA, of Michael Graves & Associates; Hansy L. Better Barraza AIA, of the Rhode Island School of Design; Karen L. Braitmayer, FAIA, of Studio Pacifica, Ltd.; and Walter J. Hood, Jr., of Hood Design.

AIA 2012 National Convention and Design Exposition Call for Presentations

The Call for Presentations for the AIA 2012 National Convention is now open. The attached PDF includes the theme statement, instructions for submitting a proposal, terms and conditions of presenting at the AIA 2012 National Convention, and the submission form. You will not be directed to an online site to submit a proposal.

Follow these steps to respond to the Call:

  1. Open attached document
  2. Select “Highlight Fields” (top right banner)
  3. Read the entire document before entering information into the fields
  4. Review for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and maximum character limits
  5. Confirm the spelling, professional designations, and AIA membership numbers (N/A if not applicable) of your speakers
  6. If a field is required, you must enter appropriate information before you can submit
  7. Avoid placeholders! Incomplete submissions may not be considered.
  8. Save a copy of the form to your computer so that you may return to make revisions prior to submitting to the AIA.
  9. Select “Print a Copy for Your Records” to retain for your files.
  10. Select “Click Here to Submit Proposal to AIA”  **You will NOT have an opportunity to return to this submission to make revisions**
The deadline for submissions is July 1, 2011. Selections will be announced in late Fall 2011.
